General Information
At the heart of education at Notre Dame School lies the Christian belief that each person is a unique being created in the image of God. Opportunities to deepen this relationship are a high priority at Notre Dame. The Catholic identity of Notre Dame School is fostered and carried out through the Campus Ministry Office. There is a campus minister/religion teacher who is responsible for the implementation of goals and objectives pertaining to the Gospel values of faith, worship and service.
Faith life is enriched by participation in liturgical worship services offered at the school on a monthly basis. During Advent and Lent there are Masses or prayer services held on Fridays. Students on all grade levels are invited and encouraged to plan and participate in these liturgies. Students have a choice of whether to attend, but the religious dimension of the school is a vital part of the tradition and mission of Notre Dame, so all are encouraged to attend.
Liturgy
Participation in the Eucharistic Liturgy and communal prayer as a school community is an integral part of life at Notre Dame. The entire school community is encouraged to participate in these opportunities for prayer.
Prayer times are schedules on various L days at 8:15 a.m. A team of students and a faculty member plans these events. In preparation for important liturgical feasts, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated.
Weekly liturgies are celebrated in the Chapel at 12:05pm on Fridays.
Retreats
The spiritual development of each student is an important aspect of life at Notre Dame; our Retreat Program is a high priority. Retreats are offered annually for each grade level and all 9th, 10th and 12th grade students participate as part of their religion program. Juniors have the option to attend overnight retreats in spiritual centers.
Service Program Information
Service volunteer hours are required of each student as part of the graduation requirements. Sophomores are informed of this and the Service Coordinator meets with them. Juniors have a Service Volunteer Fair held in school in the Fall where various speakers present ideas and opportunities to them. The 40 hour service requirement is expected to be completed by the end of junior year.
