Message from the President

Dear Members of the Notre Dame Community and Visitors,

As we begin the 2009/2010 school year, I am in awe of all that our school is. I see the faces of our students and their wonderful diversity. I visit the new chapel, an example of the great generosity of our alumnae and friends. I am amazed at our entire school 's willingness to reach out to explore the world and make it a better place for those in need. In all these things, I see our school 's mission of education at work everyday, and I know that God is truly present. It is a wonderful time to begin my first year as president.

The Class of '09, who carry the spirit of our founder, Anne de Xainctonge, and all they have learned at Notre Dame, has safely settled into some of the most selective colleges and universities in the country. Reports from our young women at the College of the Holy Cross, Dartmouth, Oberlin, and the University of Santa Clara, indicate that even as the newcomers on campus, our recent alumnae are assuming leadership roles. This comes as no surprise, since over 90% of last year 's graduates won academic scholarships to selective colleges and universities.

Our current student body is an exceptional mix of academically talented and delightfully engaging young women from all five boroughs and New Jersey. They benefit from all Notre Dame School has to offer, in the Carson Family Science Center, our library, art studio, and enriched curriculum offerings.

All of these improvements were spearheaded by our first President and dear friend, Sr. Mary Dolan, S.U., whom we saluted in September with a liturgy and celebration. So many friends gathered or sent good wishes to Sr. Mary for all her years of service to Notre Dame. Sr. Mary remains on our Board so that she can continue to directly serve the mission.

Now, I invite you to explore the Notre Dame website which is a window into our school -- the vibrant spiritual and academic home to 300 happy and grateful young scholars and, as we approach our anniversary in 2012, nearly 100 years young!

Sincerely,

Dr. Virginia O'Brien, S.U. '70
President
